Its setting gives the experience a warm and intimate character, making it well suited to guests who want to enjoy dinner in the old town without choosing a busy or overly informal tapas bar. The mood is elegant, calm and connected to the architectural character of the surrounding streets.

Marbella Old Town is one of those places we always come back to. As the team behind MarbsLifestyle.com, we spend a lot of time exploring Marbella, but the Old Town has a special place in our hearts. For us, this beautiful historic centre is not just a place to recommend to visitors. It is our own culinary happy place for dinner. The narrow streets, charming squares, whitewashed façades and romantic evening atmosphere make every dinner here feel a little more special.

Over the years, we have tried many restaurants in and around Marbella Old Town, and some places have become true all-time favourites for our team. La Tienda Casa Curro is one of them, especially because of its incredible wine options, cosy setting and authentic Spanish feel. It is the kind of place where you can settle in, order great wine, share beautiful dishes and enjoy the Old Town at its best. Another favourite is Zozoi, a restaurant we love for its atmosphere, creative Mediterranean flavours and fantastic sharing plates, which make it perfect for a long, relaxed dinner with friends or family.

That is exactly why we wanted to create this guide. Marbella Old Town is one of the best places in the city for a memorable meal, whether you are looking for relaxed tapas, a romantic bistro, a polished Mediterranean dinner, great seafood, a wine-focused evening or something more creative and international. This restaurant-only guide brings together our favourite places to eat in and around Marbella’s historic centre, with a mix of authentic Andalusian taverns, elegant dining spots and hidden gems that make the Old Town such a special destination for food lovers.

Casanis Bistrot — Romantic French-Mediterranean Dining

Casanis Bistrot is one of those restaurants that gives Marbella Old Town its romantic side. Set on Calle Ancha, it feels warm, elegant and a little hidden, with that soft evening atmosphere that makes you want to dress up just a bit, order a good bottle of wine and let dinner take its time. It is not a tapas bar and it is not stiff fine dining either; it sits perfectly in between.

What we love about Casanis is the personality behind it. The restaurant describes itself as a Mediterranean bistro with French and Belgian influences, shaped by Guy Sirre’s travels and led in the kitchen by chef Fabian Cangas. It also has several different spaces, from the main room and terrace to the inner patio and wine cellar, so the feeling changes depending on where you sit.

The food has that classic bistro comfort, but with a Marbella polish. Think tuna tartare, scallops, grilled tuna, beef Wellington-style dishes and proper desserts such as tarte tatin or crème brûlée. For us, Casanis is the place for a cosy, grown-up dinner in the Old Town: intimate, stylish and full of charm without ever feeling cold.

Zozoï — Creative Seasonal Cuisine in a Beautiful Patio

Zozoï is all about the patio. That is the part you remember. The restaurant sits on Plaza Altamirano, but once you step inside, the Andalusian courtyard gives the evening a completely different feeling: softer, more romantic and more relaxed. It is the kind of place where you do not want to rush. You order a bottle, share a few starters, look around the table and realise everyone is happy.

The menu is creative and seasonal, with fresh products at the heart of it, but Zozoï also has something very generous about it. It works beautifully for sharing, especially if you start with plates like grilled artichoke with ricotta, homemade croquettes, seared scallops, beef carpaccio, foie gras or warm goat cheese salad. Then you can move into baby sole meunière, Galician beef entrecôte, pastas or one of the pizzas.

And the pizza deserves to be mentioned. The Pilpil pizza with prawns, garlic, pimentón and parsley, or the spicy Nduja Calabrese, gives Zozoï that relaxed, fun side we really like. For us, Zozoï is perfect when you want Old Town charm, a beautiful patio and food made to share.

Taberna Casa Curro — Andalusian Tapas and Local Wine

Taberna Casa Curro is the kind of place that should not be made too polished, because the charm is exactly in its taberna feeling. It is lively, narrow, warm and made for people who enjoy proper Spanish products: a cold beer, a glass of Andalusian wine, something salty on the table and the sound of people talking around you.

This is the more traditional side of the Casa Curro family. The official concept is built around genuine Andalusian flavours: fresh prawns, lomo de orza, jamón ibérico de bellota, chorizo, salchichón, cured cheeses and a careful selection of Andalusian wines. The setting matches the food, with barrels outside, high stools and an inside bar that feels like a classic Spanish taberna.

What we love here is the simplicity. Order chicharrón de Cádiz, caña de lomo, tomato with melva, premium conservas or a plate of jamón, and keep it easy. This is not a long, polished restaurant dinner. It is a local-style tapas stop with energy, flavour and the feeling that you are eating in the real Old Town.

La Tienda Casa Curro — Modern Spanish Dining with a Gourmet Twist

La Tienda Casa Curro is the more refined, culinary side of Casa Curro, and for us that is exactly why it stands out. It still has the Spanish way of eating we love, with small dishes in the middle of the table, but the level is higher. The plates are more thought through, the ingredients are better, and the whole experience feels more like high-end tapas than a traditional bar.

Set on Calle Pantaleón, La Tienda is spread across two adjoining spaces and focuses on quality product, careful preparations, Mediterranean flavour, a strong wine selection and its Cheese Passion corner. Their own description highlights dishes like lobster brioche, smoked eel ensaladilla and tuna tartare with ponzu and wakame, alongside a serious selection of national and international wines.

What makes it personal for us is the way the evening flows. You order slowly, taste different wines by the glass, share everything and keep discovering new favourites. The cheese selection is one of those details you do not forget. La Tienda feels polished, but not cold; creative, but still connected to Spanish dining. That balance is what makes it special.

Bar El Estrecho — Classic Tapas in a No-Frills Setting

Bar El Estrecho is pure Old Town Marbella. It has been around since 1954, and you feel that history in the narrow street, the simple bar energy and the fast rhythm of the place. It is not a restaurant you choose for quiet luxury. You choose it because you want the opposite: proper Andalusian and Malagueñan food, a lively room and a table full of classic tapas.

Their own website calls it one of Marbella’s most traditional bars, serving food throughout the day from Tuesday to Saturday. The menu is exactly what you hope to find in a place like this: ensaladilla rusa, fried calamari, jamón ibérico, piquillo peppers, langostinos al pilpil, a dish of the day and simple homemade desserts like natillas or peritas al vino.

Taberna La Niña del Pisto — Rustic Andalusian Comfort Food

Taberna La Niña del Pisto is the kind of small Andalusian tavern where you go for comfort food, not for perfection. It feels rustic, local and a little noisy in the best way, with dishes that belong on the table in generous portions. This is the place for friends, sharing and proper southern Spanish flavours.

The food is rooted in Córdoba and Andalusia. The dishes people keep coming back for are exactly the ones you would hope for here: pisto with egg, salmorejo, fried aubergines with honey, rabo de toro, flamenquines, carrilleras, calamares and seafood. Several listings and guest notes also describe it as small, popular and better with a reservation, which says a lot about the type of place it is.

What we like is that it feels homely. You do not come here for a delicate tasting menu. You come for a table full of dishes with sauce, texture and flavour, and for that warm taberna feeling that still makes Marbella Old Town so enjoyable.

Bar Altamirano — Old Town Seafood with Local Character

Bar Altamirano is one of the Old Town classics for seafood, and the beauty is that it does not overcomplicate things. Set on Plaza Altamirano, it is the place to go when you want fish, shellfish, a busy terrace and that unmistakable smell of the sea coming from the kitchen.

The official story is very clear: Altamirano focuses on wild fish and seafood, selected from La Bajadilla and brought to the kitchen within hours. They even say you will not find sophisticated plates here, but you will find freshness, quality and flavour from the sea. That honesty is exactly why it works.

Order simply and share. Boquerones fritos, gambas a la plancha, conchas finas, chipirones, almejas and a seafood platter are the kind of dishes that make sense here. For us, Altamirano is not about a fancy night out. It is about sitting in the square, eating fresh seafood and enjoying one of those Marbella dinners that feels timeless.

El Barril del Gusto — Wine, Tapas and Mediterranean Flavour

El Barril Del Gusto gallery image 4

El Barril del Gusto is a good choice when you want the Old Town, but with a calmer, more wine-led feeling. Located on Plaza José Palomo, it has that bodega-style atmosphere where the evening naturally becomes about food, wine and conversation. It feels intimate rather than loud, which makes it especially nice for couples or a smaller group of friends.

The restaurant describes its food as Mediterranean, with everything from elaborated tapas to imaginative fish dishes and classic red meats. Their own specialities include paella with Argentine young beef entrecôte, grilled octopus and an Iberian board, which gives you a good idea of the style: generous, flavourful and made to enjoy with wine.

For us, this is not the place to rush in and out. It is better when you let the evening build slowly. Start with something to share, ask about the wines, order the octopus or ibéricos, and enjoy the feeling of a small Old Town restaurant that still has its own personality.

Thaissence — Thai-Peruvian Fusion in the Old Town

Thaissence is the most unexpected restaurant in this Old Town selection. After several nights of tapas, seafood and Mediterranean food, this is where you go when you want something different. Located on Calle Ancha inside the Maison Ardois boutique hotel environment, it brings together Thai and Peruvian influences in a more intimate, hotel-style setting.

The location already gives it character. Maison Ardois is described as a beautiful historic house in the Old Town, with interior details such as 1929 hydraulic floors, and Thaissence builds on that boutique feeling with a more creative, polished dining style. The concept is based on Thai-Peruvian fusion, often using Málaga and local products as a starting point.

This is not a simple Asian restaurant. Think citrus, spice, herbs, sauces and tasting-menu style plates. Past coverage mentions dishes such as Causa Malagueña, modern salmorejo with mango and caviar oil, and bold Thai-Peruvian combinations that feel very different from the rest of the Old Town. For us, Thaissence is the choice when you want a more adventurous dinner in a beautiful, quieter setting.

The Farm — Honest Food in a Historic Andalusian Courtyard

The Farm is one of the most atmospheric places in Marbella Old Town because the setting has real soul. It is not just a restaurant; it is a courtyard, bar, garden and event space inside one of the oldest buildings in the old centre. Their own story says the courtyard dates back to 1502, and that history gives the whole place a feeling you cannot fake.

What we love about The Farm is that it feels relaxed but never boring. There is honest food, proper cocktails, live music, flamenco and DJ sessions, so dinner can easily turn into a full evening. The menu takes inspiration from the region, with Andalusian wines, local products and options for vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free guests.

The food has more detail than you might expect from such a relaxed place. Fresh prawn carpaccio with wakame, grilled octopus with plantain cream and wasabi, miso-glazed hake, ribeye with chimichurri, Iberian pork secreto with ponzu, lamb chops and a local cheese platter all show how much personality there is in the kitchen. For us, The Farm is where you go for atmosphere first, and then realise the food and cocktails are part of the reason you stay.

AFuego — Modern Dining Inside the Old Town Walls

AFuego is the more elegant, hidden side of dining in Marbella Old Town. Located inside Hotel El Castillo, part of La Ciudadela Marbella, it has a very different mood from the busy tapas streets. It feels calm, polished and connected to the old walls around it, which makes it a strong choice for a special dinner or a quieter evening in the historic centre.

The setting is a big part of the appeal. AFuego has been described as the only restaurant inside Marbella’s medieval wall, with a connection to Hotel El Castillo and, in summer, rooftop dining with views over the Old Town, Sierra Blanca and the sea. The food concept is built around product and fire: meat, fish and vegetables cooked slowly, with quality ingredients at the centre.

What makes it interesting is that the cooking is serious without feeling overly complicated. Coverage mentions grilled fish such as red mullet, turbot, hake or tuna cuts, along with Iberian pork, lamb, mature beef, steak tartare, good vegetables and a strong wine focus. For us, AFuego is where you send someone who wants Spanish flavour, Old Town history and a more refined hotel-restaurant experience in one evening.

Marbella Old Town is a must-visit destination for food lovers.

For us at MarbsLifestyle.com, dining in Marbella Old Town is not about choosing the most famous restaurant or the most polished table. It is about finding the place that matches the feeling of the evening. That is exactly what makes the Old Town so special. Within a few narrow streets, you can go from a traditional tapas bar full of local energy to a romantic courtyard, a refined bistro, a seafood terrace, a wine-led dinner or a more creative culinary experience.

What we love most is the variety. Some nights are made for a glass of wine and jamón at Taberna Casa Curro, fresh fish at Bar Altamirano or classic tapas at El Estrecho. Other evenings ask for something more special: the patio at Zozoï, the charm of Casanis, the high-end tapas and cheese selection at La Tienda Casa Curro, or a slow dinner with wine at El Barril del Gusto. And then there are the places that bring a different side to the Old Town, like the courtyard atmosphere at The Farm, the Thai-Peruvian creativity of Thaissence or the elegant hotel setting of AFuego.

That is why Marbella Old Town remains one of our favourite areas to eat. It still has soul. You can wander without a strict plan, discover a hidden square, sit down somewhere beautiful and let the evening unfold naturally. Whether you are looking for Andalusian tradition, romantic ambience, fresh seafood, sharing plates, good wine or something more refined, the Old Town always has a table that feels right.
