DSquared², or D2, was established by identical twin brothers Dean and Dan Caten in 1995. Born in Canada, the duo moved to New York in 1983 to study fashion at Parsons The New School for Design. Later, they moved to Italy where they worked for various fashion houses before launching their own brand.

The Catens are known for their elaborate, high-energy runway shows, often featuring live music, celebrity appearances, and dramatic themes. These shows reflect the designers' bold, playful approach to fashion, blending Canadian iconography, refined Italian tailoring, and playful sensuality. DSquared²'s design philosophy is an eclectic mix of contrasts – sporty and glamorous, laid-back and extravagant, masculine and feminine.

The brand's aesthetic is heavily influenced by a mix of Canadian wit and refined Italian tailoring, with a focus on attention to detail. DSquared²'s signature pieces often feature denim, a nod to the designers' Canadian roots, in addition to leather goods, footwear, and accessories.
